Many years ago my car radio was stolen. At the time I couldn't afford to just replace it, and I was also in therapy. I told my therapist that I was very concerned about the 2+ hour drive to Ukiah with no radio to keep me company. He very gently suggested that it would be a great time to "just be with myself" and possibly to work on some of the stuff we had been talking about. The first couple of trips seemed pretty strange, with, as you say, there is no attention getting noise around. Those first trips had to have been 20 years ago, and I -still- like to drive in silence (unless I have a human companion). It really is a form of meditation in this distraction filled world.
