A summer-like day.

Dare I hope that summer may have arrived? It was sunny and warm today, enough so I could feel comfortable in a tee shirt, and feel the need of a hat. Weather forecast says it's only temporary, though. :sigh:

We had Kismet and Teddy out today in their paddock, and at one point they were both stretched out having a good snooze in the sunshine. So cute. Teddy is doing great, and is such a nice tempered little guy. Doesn't mind having his fly mask on, or getting sunscreen put on his nose, just stands there and takes it in stride. I have pictures, but the camera is in my car and I'm too lazy to go down to the garage to get it.

Little Buddy is a bit unwell. He has the sniffles and a snotty nose, so we called the Vet today, and he said not to worry, just give him the Sulfa tablets we had for him, and see how he does. He got his medicine this morning, and looked better this afternoon. Unfortunately he couldn't go outside, so the introduction to Orca is not quite on schedule. It's okay, we'll get it done.

I actually had some time to spend with my own horses today! Yay. Poor horses have been a bit neglected of late, what with all the crazy busy times. This afternoon I put Midnight in the crossties and gave him a good grooming, trimmed his tail, picked his feet out, and sprayed him with fly spray. Then I decided to do a little ground work with him in the arena; took him in, and he promptly did a nose dive into the sand and undid all my grooming with a darn good roll in the sand! Bugger. I do love Midnight, but in all honesty he's not the ideal horse for me. He's bold and pushy, and really really smart. He misbehaves more with me than he does with Sue or Kelly, because I think he knows he has my number in some ways. If he was working he'd be much easier, but because he's so limited by his navicular, he gets bored. A bored Midnight is a pain in the butt Midnight. Still, we're working on it. I just have to be more consistent and find the time to work with him more.

Kyra on the other hand is the horse of my heart, really. She's even tempered, willing and ready to do what I ask of her, and we rarely get into any kind of personality clashes. I suppose I treat her a bit differently, just because she's so much easier. It helps that she's an old horse, and has undoubtedly gone through her silly teenage years before I met her.
I spent some time with her this afternoon, trying to get rid of the last of the winter fur. She's taking a long time to shed out, perhaps because of her age, and the crummy weather this spring.

Whatever their issues, I went away from the farm this afternoon feeling so much better just from having spent time with my horses. It makes me happy just being around them.

Got home and scrounged around the kitchen trying to figure out what to make for dinner. Settled on a stuffed spaghetti squash (pasta-like strands of squash sauteed with onion, tomato and green peppers, stuffed in the shell and topped with cheese, then baked) and it was very tasty. Good servings of veggies, and some protein. Nummy. For dessert I baked some chunks of fresh pineapple and sliced banana topped with butter and brown sugar. It was surprisingly good, although the banana was a little on the strange side colour-wise. Poured some yogurt over the banana, and the colour was not an issue.

Puttered around the patio for a bit this evening; my strawberry plant is making strawberries! I had the first ripe ones today. The raspberries are starting to look promising, too. Three of the roses are blooming, and the lavender is almost in bloom. I haven't put a lot into the patio garden this year, but it still looks pretty. It's such a nice space to sit in the evenings when the weather permits.

And that's my day. How was yours?
