Dream a little dream.

Sue asked me an interesting question yesterday: Have you had a dream of doing something in life, a goal that you were so passionate about that you worked your butt off to accomplish? By way of comparison, she talked about her dream of having a place where she could breed the very best horses, a dream she'd had since she was young. She has worked very hard to get to that goal, and I have never met anyone quite so driven and determined to make her dream a reality. She's sacrificed a lot and worked through some really rough times, and in the end we have a farm, and have bred some of the most beautiful and talented young horses, foals that would make any top breeder proud. That wouldn't have happened if she didn't follow her dream. So, did I have a dream?

I couldn't answer the question. I couldn't think of anything in my life that I have felt I wanted so desperately that I was willing to sacrifice just about anything to accomplish the goal. I love the farm, and the horses, and I can't imagine life without them, but I know if it had been up to me, I wouldn't have had the strength and determination it took to build the business. I am just not that driven a person, and I have never had that kind of inner fire. I'm a much more laissez-faire kind of person, you know, the kind of person who rolls along through her life just taking it as it comes. Life to me is not a series of goals to meet, it's more like a river that flows along, carrying me in the current. Not to say that I don't have goals; I just don't think I have GOALS...if you understand the difference. I admire people like Sue, who know what they want in life and go for it, guns blazing...but that's just not my style. I am quite content with my life as I have lived it, and I have no desire to be any different; I am comfortable with myself, so I guess the answer to the question is "No". It's an interesting thing to think about, though.
