Falling Leaves..
Oct. 15th, 2011 11:02 pmThat's the theme of the day. It was the most glorious autumn day today, all sunshine and blue skies and leaves turning gold and orange and falling down on the grass. Days like today make me believe that fall is the best time of year...until the rains come back and I'm all "damn these gray days of autumn!"
The Occupy Wall Street protests came to Vancouver today; I didn't attend, but I heard on the radio as I drove out to the farm that there were thousands of people outside of the Vancouver Art Gallery downtown, and the atmosphere was festive. I'm not sure what everyone was protesting about, but I'm sure there were many different agendas. It's fascinating, watching this thing turn into a real movement; it kind of brings me back to the days of the anti Vietnam war protests. I don't know what is going to happen with this movement, but I think people are fed up and frustrated with the way things are going, and there is real potential for something amazing to happen here.
One of my co-workers is American, and she recently went back to New York; she told me she couldn't believe how much things had changed in the last few years, how badly so many people in the USA are hurting in this economy; I think we in Canada are lucky, and have so far escaped relatively lightly. We certainly live in interesting times (which I understand is an old Chinese curse).
It was a glorious day for a little demonstration, anyway.
I was busy doing other things, of course. But I was there in spirit
