Things are happening..
Dec. 14th, 2012 09:08 pmFirstly, may I just add my voice to the chorus of shock and sorrow over the senseless killing of innocent children? It makes me wonder what our world is coming to, that such ugliness and evil exists. Then I remember the good things, the joys of new beginnings, and the little kindesses I see around me, and I find my belief in the essential goodness of most people somewhat restored.
On the homefront, I found out tonight that I'm going to be a great aunt again. My brother's daughter is expecting; she's actually due just after Christmas (of this year! Guess everyone thought someone else had told me, LOL) First grandchild for my brother and sister-in-law.
I'm not really feeling the Christmas spirit just yet, but I'm trying. Wrote the few cards that I send tonight, so I can mail them tomorrow. I'm going to dig out the little Christmas tree and the ornaments tomorrow, that always helps. I have finished the shopping, and bought some pretty wrapping paper, so I expect that will also help the Christmas spirit settle in. I might even bake some shortbread cookies.
This has been such a busy week out at the farm, we're all a little tired. Today they were going to pour the concrete for the foundation for the new barn, so I was up bright and early and out there by 9 a.m. so we could put Buddy and Teddy out in the paddock for a couple of hours before the big trucks arrived. They're being ever so good, and I think they're finding all the activity quite entertaining, but the truck was going to be blocking the path so we had to make sure they came in before it all started. We kept all the others in because we thought the truck was going to be blocking the door to the big barn, but it turned out it didn't..but by that time it was too late to put them out. It bothers us more than them when they have to stay in; as long as there's hay to eat, they're quite happy. The young girls had a little gallop in the arena while we cleaned their stalls, just to get their yayas out.
The construction crew is being really good; all the young guys are being very polite and careful around the horses, and it's a lot better than we'd anticipated, having seen various construction sites! The guys are all quite taken by Teddy and Buddy; I think the boys have a fan club, lol. The builder says that this week and next will be the most difficult in terms of mess; they're putting in the pipes and stuff next week, so there is going to be more digging, but once all that is done, and the backfill done and the gravel put down on the road, it will be a lot better. One thing about it, all the horses are going to be very used to lots of noise and action! We want to take a video of Buddy and Teddy going out past all of the equipment, somedays it's like an obstacle course. Most people we talk to wouldn't dream of taking two one year old horse through a construction zone, and are amazed we even try. Those two boys are stars, we're so proud of them.
Time to do a kitty check..last night I went to bed, and while I was trying to get to sleep I heard a racket in the hallway. Sounded like one of the cats was trying to get into the closet, or out of it, so I got up to check. Sam and Annie were sitting staring at the door, so I figured it was Chloe. Opened the closet door, no Chloe. Then I heard frantic scratching on the front door, opened it and there was poor Chloe, desperate to get into the apartment! She must have slipped out onto the patio while I was putting something outside, and I didn't notice. She was wet and rather unhappy, but very pleased to be back inside with her brother and sister, who gave her a good grooming. Now I'm going to go do a head count, just in case. :P
