Wow, I don't know where summer went. It just seems like yesterday we were celebrating the first day of summer, and now it's almost over! I think it's true that time seems to go faster as you get older, sure seems that way.
It's been pretty nice this month, a bit of hot weather but not too much. I hope the dry weather holds for awhile longer. We're working on fixing the paddocks at the farm, putting down more crusher dust and making the footing better before the wet weather arrives. It's going to be so much better than the hogfuel we used to use,(hogfuel is like bark mulch)which broke down in the wet winters and turned really mucky over time. Jack is spending the long weekend spreading crusher dust, starting with the boys' paddock. A big truckload was dumped in the paddock on Thursday before the boys went out, so we were a bit unsure how they'd react. They loved it! Two big piles of the stuff were just right for them to run up and leap down from. They had a blast. Buddy and Teddy are getting so big...not babies anymore. They are really good boys, strong, but quite easy to handle.
On Thursday we put Sara in the arena to have a run, and it set Rochelle off in her paddock by the arena. Every time Sara came down to the end of the arena, Rochelle would start running around, and then Midnight would come charging down the field to make sure his girls were okay. It was pretty funny to watch. Midnight kind of thinks of all the girls as part of his herd, and finds them fascinating. Eventually I will try putting Rochelle in the field with him and Kyra, but probably I'll put her in with Kyra first; Midnight can be a bit of a bully, and I don't want my young girl to get hurt. Better to take things a step at a time.

We're going to start building the new barn soon. The plans are going to City hall for approval, then building will start. There's going to be a lovely apartment on the top floor; Sue and Jack will live there while the new house is being built, because the old house is getting torn down. With luck and good management, the new house should be ready by next spring. It's very exciting to have things moving at last. We've all worked so hard to get to this point.

I worked a shift in CCU today. It's a nice change from ICU; the patients are sick, but in a different way from most patients in ICU. It's a whole different dynamic; the pace can go from frantically busy with patients coming in for cardiac caths and pacemakers and things, and others transferring out to the cardiac telemetry ward, to quiet with nothing much happening (there's actually an afternoon nap time - for patients, not staff, lol) to hectic again, all in one shift. But it's nice to have patients who can actually talk to me (and make sense), and who don't require the heavy lifting etc. that most ICU patients need. However, ICU is always home for me, I've worked there for so many years. It's good to change things up now and then, though. Keeps things fresh.

My two sisters are coming to visit me in September. I haven't seen my younger sister in several years, and the last time the three of us were together was 5 years ago. I'm excited to have them visit, I just hope we don't get on each other's nerves in my one bedroom apartment! Have to plan lots of touristy things to keep them occupied. Plus I really have to do a major cleanup of the old homestead.

That's it for August. See you in September!
