I feel like I've been away from DW/LJ for weeks. Nice to know everyone hasn't up and left while I was gone. ;P
First of all, I hope everyone on my flist who is in the path of Hurricane Irene stays safe and dry. I will be watching and hoping for the best for you all.
I've been a busy little beaver this past week, and haven't had time to spend on much else but keeping myself going. It's been hot as stink here, too, which doesn't help. The young woman who does the barn work for us is on holidays this week so Sue and I have been doing the work. I worked night shift on Monday and Tuesday nights, so Sue was on her own Tuesday. I worked all Tuesday night, then drove out to the farm straight after work. We worked all day cleaning stalls and paddocks and such, then grabbed some supper at the White Spot, then did the evening chores before we collapsed. We were going to watch a movie but ended up watching the Cavalia show DVD. I enjoyed it but the music was so relaxing I almost fell asleep several times. I was in bed at 9:30 and asleep by 10..and didn't wake up til 8 a.m.
Did it all again yesterday. It was hot, so we managed to get everything done by 1 p.m., and brought the horses in early. We've been very worried about poor Kismet; she has the hugest abcess in her left front hoof, and has been feeling very poorly. I'm sure her foot hurts terribly; she spends a lot of her time lying down to take the weight off the foot. The Vet came and pulled off the shoe, and the abcess is draining. We've been poulticing and soaking her foot in warm epsom salts, but yesterday we decided that she needs antibiotics. We drove to the clinic and picked up the medicine, so we could get her started ASAP. Poor Kismet, she's been through the wringer ever since she had Teddy. Hopefully she's going to get better now. It kills us to see her hobbling around, poor girl.
I'm sporting some wounds of my own; I was puttin Sera out on Wednesday, and just as we got into the paddock I grabbed the gate and got the biggest shock! Just about knocked me on my ass. yowza. Then, when I was bringing her in that afternoon, just as we walked through the gate, Kandance freaked out and starte racing around her paddock. Sera spooked and then stepped on my left foot; I lost my balance and fell down, skinning my knee and my elbow on the gravel. I look a little worse for wear, but it's not serious.
I stayed home today; Kelly is back to work, so today is my day off. Tomorrow will be Sue's turn. I've spent the day cleaning the apartment, and rearranging my closet; finally tossed a bunch of old shoes I'll never wear again, got rid of a bunch of crap, and made more room for things I need. As I was taking out the recycling my landlord showed up and wanted me to start cleaning out the storage space where I've been keeping the pots and stuff I've collected for the patio garden; for some reason he's been in a cleanup mode of late. So I spent some time sorting through it all; I made progress and put a lot of pots into the recycling. He can do what he likes with the rest of the stuff, most of which isn't mine.
I took a nap, read some, drank tea, and that's the day. Now I have some time to check up on all your doings!

Date: 2011-08-27 03:16 pm (UTC)I"m sympathizing with all the other bumps and bruises too. I spent all day for two days, in the main chandelier cleaning and relamping it (it has something like 580 bulbs). I have serious bruises all over my body.
Hope things cool down for you up there!
