Damn, I'm coming down with a cold. *sniffle* I've been drinking euchinacea tea by the bucketful these past couple of days, hoping to stave off the inevitable. Blargh.
At least my ICU shifts are done for the week. Three very busy shifts, for sure. Last night I may have been just a tad cranky at the start of the shift; 3 hours sleep just isn't enough for me to remain my usual chipper self. At 7:30 I was getting report from the day RN when the Resident came barreling into the room with a trolley full of stuff, ready to change the dialysis line on my patient right then and there. I may have yelled at her, just a little...I mean, even though she said she could do it herself, the reality is that she couldn't. Five minutes into the procedure she'd be asking me to move that or adjust the ultrasound machine or hold the patient's head or something. Not that I mind that, but please, give me time to at least get report and get organized for the night! I think I scared her a little, because she went away and didn't come back for almost 3 hours. hah! Don't mess with the cranky old nurse, eh? She just might bite.
We did get the job done, in case you wondered.
I was supposed to go out for dinner with a friend to celebrate her birthday, but she called this morning and cancelled, because she's got a bad cold. I was quite relieved, since I didn't feel much like it myself. Thought I'd get some laundry done this afternoon; got a load in the washer, and then when I went to put it in the drier I discovered that some idiot had managed to jam the coin slot so I couldn't use it. Several bad words followed..and maybe a small kick to the machine. I was forced to go out to a Laundromat to dry the big pile of wet clothes, something I haven't had to do in 15 years. It was not an experience I was happy to have again; now I remember why I hated doing laundry. Hot damp laundromat, machines that don't work very well but suck up the coins, and a grumpy attendent. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. At least the clothes got dried.
I taped Glee last night, but I don't feel like watching it right now. I'm just not in the mood for it. I was flipping through the channels and it seems like everyone is talking about the trial of the doctor who treated Michael Jackson; my thoughts are mainly of the WTF was the guy thinking? Both the doctor and Jackson..I mean, really. You don't treat insomnia with Propofol; it's an anesthetic agent. It knocks you out, but that's not sleep. We use it in ICU, under controlled circumstances for patients who are on ventilators and who are constantly monitored, but not because the person can't sleep! Really, the whole thing is a sad, sad mess, and it seems to me that there's lots of blame to go around. I just keep skipping past it all, because it seems kind of like voyeurism, watching everyone watching this train wreck. shakes head
Oh, Iron Chef America! Chocolate and chilis! Yum, yum. Chef Duff doesn't just make cakes. OMG, I wish I could reach into my TV and grab some of that amazing food. Food Channel and Discovery channel, just about the only channels worth watching most nights.
More tea for me. And tissues.

Date: 2011-10-01 05:37 am (UTC)I got home to the thrilling news that one of my roommates has a bad staph infection. Fortunately this is a guy that doesn't use the kitchen. Unfortunately he does use the bathroom. Fortunately he's now on antibiotics and I'm not likely to be around much. Got any advice?

Date: 2011-10-01 06:27 am (UTC)Cranky oldtimers often teach young pups valuable lessons.
I'm feeling very much like the senior, somewhat cranky old lady myself. Went to the pasture and found all the Iris Barn horses suffering from protein deficiency. Damnit I TOLD them to start feeding alfalfa pellets last AUGUST!!! Bad me, I didn't follow up.
