Good grief, it's the last day of July. This summer, such as it's been, is almost half over. Time flies when you're having fun (or just being totally busy!)

It rained during the night, but at least it cleared up this morning. Big day in Vancouver, the annual Gay Pride Parade. It's a huge event, and there are thousands of people downtown. Hope everyone had a good time! I sure wasn't there; I'm not a big crowd kind of person, and tend to run the other way from events like that. Hey, I go to a party and end up in the kitchen with 3 other people..

I got a call last night from Jack wondering if I'd seen the two kittens before I left last evening; usually we get them in and lock them in their room when we feed dinner, but it was so hot yesterday we left them out. Sue and Jack came home around 9 p.m., and Stripey was no where to be found. The coyotes were howling along the fence line, and poor Jack was just frantic. He loves those kittens. Luckily, after much searching and calling, Stripey appeared. Smokey was already home. Critters! they cause as much worry as any kid, I'm sure. Today we made sure to grab them early before they decided to go off hunting bunnies or something.

Buddy is doing really well, integrating with Kismet and Teddy. We're trying to get him out every day for a few hours, long enough for him to have a good gallop, and get a little better acquainted with them, but not so long he's stressed. Also we're trying to wean him away from us; today Kelly stayed with him, and Sue and I left. He's getting braver every day. Today he got really close to Kismet, almost touched her nose, and she was ever so good. Didn't even put her ears back. I'm confident that a few more days will see them all getting along without us having to stand there. Slow and steady, that's the plan. He's growing and looking so good, we're very happy. Occasionally he'll do something that reminds us of Phaedra, and kind of grabs at our heartstrings. He likes to put his nose through the bars of his stall and lick our hands, just like his Momma used to. We miss her so much. We're doing everything in our power to make sure her son grows up to be a happy and well adjusted horse.

I stopped at the Walmart off Grandview Highway on my way home; I don't usually go to big box stores, but I was in need of some new running shoes. The ones I bought there (for $15) have lasted me over 2 summers, and are finally starting to fall apart. I didn't want to spend a lot of cash on fancy smancy designer shoes, since they're mainly for farm work. Found another $15 pair. Comfortable, and if they only last the summer, that's okay. I was quite mesmerized by the store; there was just so much stuff! From groceries to underwear; who knew? I ended up at the check out with a pair of shoes, some socks, a box of frozen cream puffs and some frozen pie dough. LOL. The cream puffs were something that my Mom used to have in her freezer all the time; she loved them, and I developed a bit of a taste for them last time I visited her at home. I hadn't seen them for years, so when I saw them in the freezer section today, I couldn't resist. In fact, I'm going to go have a couple with my tea now.

Tomorrow I'm staying home. Haven't had a day off in so long; I'm either working in ICU, or out at the farm. I may just have a lazy, lazy day. That's my plan, anyway.
