Hoo, boy. Just when I think things are under control, I get whomped from behind. My lovely Honda Civic went in for a tune up and diagnosis of her recent bout of I wanna be a race car, vrooom, vroom yesterday, and it turns out that the engine is dying of old age. 357,000 km. and that's all she wrote, folks. Damn, I really did not need this right now. However, I can't afford a new car, so I have to go with the alternative: getting a new (rebuilt)engine. Car is in the shop, engine has been ordered, and they hope it will be all done by the end of Monday. Estimated cost, about $2100 plus taxes. :sigh:
I got a rental car yesterday, a neat little Kia 4 door. I really liked it, it's a great size and very zippy. If I was going to get a new car, I would consider one of these. I drove it out to the farm yesterday evening, and then after all the work had been done today I drove it back to the city. I only had it for the 24 hours, because now I have the Hondashop's courtesy car. It's another Civic, but much newer than mine. It's not that much bigger, but it's kind of like the Tardis: it seems so much bigger on the inside! The dials and such are waaaay up on the dash, and I can hardly see them. It feels like a way bigger car than my Civic. Don't know if I like it all that much, but it's free, so yay. The rental was free too, because the Hondashop is paying for it. Again, yay.
No wonder I'm feeling a little stressed out. My neck went into super spasms last night and I didn't get much sleep. Still, I'm trying to look on the bright side...now my car will be rejuvenated and I won't be worrying that the engine is going to blow up crossing the Port Mann bridge, like I was everytime I heard a new rattle and knock. I'll save on gas and oil too, because the car was definitely eating those up like candy. A classic sign of engine fatigue, I understand.
Ah well. That which doesn't kill me makes me stronger, right? Right.
I am going to need some extra shifts. Good thing I'm going to start working in PAR as well as ICU come September. I should be able to get more shifts without having to work more night shifts if I do that.
There was a small earthquake in our area last night; a 3.5 on the Richter scale they say, centred in one of the provincial parks. I didn't feel anything, but of course now the news is all agog about how most of the local hospitals will fall down in a heap of rubble should a major quake happen. Hope I'm not at work.
Time for some heat therapy for my neck while I watch Buffy. I've been watching season 4 - it's being shown on MuchMusic, and I have been sucked in (pardon the pun, LOL).
