Hi there, it's me!
Oct. 27th, 2011 09:22 pmHoly cow, this has been a busy week. I just finished up my fourth 12 hour shift in ICU in 5 days; my off day was spent out at the farm. I have barely even checked my email this week, never mind post anything here. I've been trying to get myself off to bed at a timely hour so that I'm not exhausted in the morning, and the few hours between getting home and going to bed have been spent getting ready to go to work the next day.
So nothing much exciting has been happening here in my little corner of the world. Just hanging in there, waiting for things to settle down.
It was super busy in ICU today, lots of very sick patients, and then at the end of the day there was rumour that they were preparing to call a Code Orange alert (a disaster alert). Oh great, that would mean no one could leave at the end of the shift! There was a plane crash at the airport; a small 16 passenger plane went down on one of the roads near the airport right at rush hour. The first report had 20 cars flattened, lots of casualties...then it was revised to oh, no cars were smushed, and there were only 4 passengers...hard to know the true picture with all the various stories. It ended up that there were injuries but no fatalities, and the most serious injuries were burns that went to Vancouver General. I'm glad it turned out to be just a rumour of a disaster, because I really didn't want to be part of a real one. I just wanted to go home.
So now I'm home.
