Buddy sees snow..
Nov. 19th, 2011 10:05 pmOur two babies, Buddy and Teddy, got their first look at snow today. It was too slippery yesterday to put them out, so today was the first time they got a closeup view of snow. Buddy was all, whoah! WTF is that? I'm not stepping in that! He stopped at the barn door and wouldn't move for quite awhile. He finally got up his courage and made a big leap outside, then stood like a statue, not sure what to do next. Teddy came out, and walked right by him, into the paddock, so Buddy followed him. Then they both went roaring around the paddock like rockets, bucking and kicking and generally having a great time.
It was a lovely sunny day, but very chilly. It was around -3C with a wind chill of -8C this morning; luckily the wind died down and it was just cold. All the horses went out, except for my two and the young girls. In this kind of weather we're very, very careful about turning horses out. The ground was frozen solid and very slippery, so it can be rather dangerous if the horses start jumping around. Midnight and Kyra both have shoes on, so I didn't want them going into the field and getting big snowballs on their feet. They had a good run in the arena, which was just fine for them.
We finished all the work by 3, and closed all the doors so it stays warmish in the barns.
I did my civic duty this morning and voted in the city elections. It was actually pretty busy, so hopefully more people came out and voted. Mayor Robertson was re-elected and the City Council is a little more diverse; I am quite pleased with the results, I think.
I'm working tomorrow, so it's time to get lunch organized.
