Oh Bloody Hell..

I got home from work, decided to make a nice cup of tea to go with a piece of toast. Filled the kettle, plugged the toaster into the plug on the stove (because they made the damned cord so short I can't plug it in to the only other plug on the counter behind the microwave) and turned the burner on under the kettle. I went to do something, came back when I heard the toast pop up...and found the cord smoldering on the very hot burner. The one without the kettle on it, the one the cord had to cross to reach the plug.....*headdesk*

Now I have to buy another toaster. Bloody hell. At least I didn't burn down the building.
