Honestly, I wish I could afford a new computer. Might make it easier to hang around here if it didn't take like an hour to boot the damned thing up..and if I wasn't constantly cursing the frozen screen. My computer is positively ancient by any standard, so I guess it's not surprising. I've put it on my things I'd really like to buy myself list..for future reference.

I've been busy with life off the internet, keeping things together, and doing all those real life chores that one needs to do, and that leaves me feeling pretty tired in the evenings. It's been hot here these past couple of weeks, and I don't do terribly well in the heat. We're all trying to cope as best we can, people, horses, cats...we're all hot, sweaty and a bit cranky. Friday I cleaned 10 stalls, raked the manure pile and filled water barrels, and then came home and collapsed. Today was a bit cooler, so work was easier. Chance of a rain shower tonight, which would be nice.

The paper said that we might get a glimpse of the Aurora Borealis in the Fraser Valley this weekend, because of the huge sun spot activity. I don't think I've ever seen the Northern Lights so far south, so it would be neat if we could see it. I suppose those rain showers just might happen about the time we're looking for the Aurora Borealis..

I walked the fence line in the field the other day, and almost lost my shoes down by the far fence. It rained so much in June that the field is still boggy in places. The grass is waist high, because it's been too wet to put the horses out in it. This is the latest we've ever been opening the field, hopefully Midnight and Kyra will get out next week. I'm going to put Rochelle out too, but just with Kyra. Midnight is too much of a bully to put a 4 year old horse (who isn't used to being together with other horses in the same space) out with him. Kyra will be fine with her, I'm sure, and will teach her a bit about socializing.

Things are happening out at the farm. The plans for the new barn are coming along, and work should start next month. There's going to be lots of activity there, and it's getting exciting. We've been working towards this for so long, and finally it's about to happen. The plans for the new house are in the making, and part of it will be a nice one bedroom suite for me, with my own private patio looking out over the ravine. Can't wait!

I'm still working 2 to 3 days a week in ICU, and have branched out to CCU as well, just to have a bit of a change. Work is work, and I'm still finding it satisfying, and that's not a bad thing.

I did something I've never done in over 40 years of nursing on Wednesday. I poked myself with a dirty needle! OMFG. The patient has Hepatitis C, that I knew. I had to do the whole "report to Occupational Health, to down to Emergency, get my blood taken, and get the kit with the antiretrovirals, just in case my patient was HIV positive." It kind of shook me up, and the prospect of taking the antiretrovirals for a month was not fun; they're hard on the liver, and generally make you feel crappy. Still, better safe than sorry. Fortunately for me, when I got back to ICU and checked his Lab reports, I found that he had been tested in June and his HIV status was negative. Whew! Gave those drugs right back to the Pharmacist. Last night I was home when the phone rang, and it was the Emerg. physician who had seen me in ER. He was just following up to see if I had found out the source HIV status, and to tell me that all my bloodwork was good. On the upside, I got a tetanus booster, and a whooping cough vaccination. I will definitely be very, very careful with needles in the future!

Monday is my birthday, when I officially become a Senior Citizen.....Yikes. On one hand, I do not feel like I'm anywhere near that old, and I'm in huge denial. On the other hand, I now qualify for benefits like Old Age pension, a seniors' discount on my car insurance, discounts at Shopper's Drug Mart, and I'm told I can travel on the ferry from Vancouver to Vancouver Island as a foot passenger for free, anytime! There are perks to getting older...and it sure beats the alternative, eh?

One of my DW friends,Ranunculus, was in town this week, and I'd hoped to be able to meet up with her. Unfortunately, it just didn't pan out. I am really sorry it didn't, but maybe next time we can make it happen.

Bought myself a couple of new books as a present, so now I'm going to have a cup of tea, a couple of mini cream puffs and a read before bedtime.
