Happy Chanukah to all those who celebrate it!

I hope the weather doesn't mess up the travel plans for Thanksgiving in the USA. Looks a bit dicey right now.

Happily here in the west, it's a lot more springlike. It was 12C today out at the farm. Amazing. Colder weather is coming over the weekend, so I mustn't get to cocky about the nice weather here. We're counting our blessings because the good weather has made the building process a lot easier. The hole for the foundation of the house was dug last week, and the gravel base was put on yesterday, and today the whole crew arrived to start building the frames for the concrete, which is going to be poured on Friday. It was so exciting to watch all the activity; we have a great view from the kitchen of the apartment; the balcony doors look right over the building site. We could see the outline of the house by the end of the day. Wow.

I will be so very glad to finally move out of this apartment and away from my idiot of a landlord. I've been here 18 years, and I have been comfortable here, but it's been such a pain in the butt to have the construction on the patio drag on and on and on. The back stairs leading down to the back alley are blocked off because they took them away in preparation for pouring concrete stairs, so I haven't been able to get down to the garbage bin or to the laundry room. I've tried to be patient, but I finally lost it and called the office tonight and kind of yelled at them..but it worked. I just got a call from Idiot Landlord to tell me they're pouring the steps tomorrow morning. Man, for a job that was supposed to take 3 weeks, it feels more like 4 months..wait, it has been 4 months. The joys of being a renter.

I'm still dealing with my horse's death, feeling very sad, but knowing that I did the right thing for her. We buried Kyra in the field next to Kismet and Phaedra on Sunday. I left some pink carnations on the graves, and today I noticed that they looked just as fresh as if I'd put them there today. I'm going to get some kind of flowering bush to plant there, and we want to get some plaques with the girls' names on them to put on the fence posts by their graves. I was so impressed by our Veterinarian; he called all the way from Colombia yesterday to ask about Kyra, he was so concerned for us. Such a great Vet.

I got my car sorted out yesterday; ICBC gave my claim the express pass so I could go straight to a body shop without having to go to the ICBC Claims Centre. I have an appointment for Dec. 10 to get it fixed.

My Aunt Ruth is still in hospital. My sister told me they're trying to organize 24 hour home care organized for her so my Uncle can take her home. She's very frail, and I suspect she's not going to do very well. She is 90, and up until the last year she's been managing fine; the little stroke she had really started her on the downward slide. We just hope she hangs on over the holidays, for Uncle Jack's sake.

I can't believe it's almost December. This year has flown by. Good stuff, bad stuff, everything in between. It's definitely been a year.
