Bye, bye, November.
Nov. 30th, 2013 09:32 pmIt's been a mixed bag of a month. Good Things: We made really good progress in the new house building - the cement footings for the foundation got poured yesterday, just before the weather changed, which was lucky. It's really neat to stand upstairs in the apartment over the barn and look down onto the outlines of the new house. Sue pointed out my apartment, just over there by the ravine side. It's so exciting to see things underway.
The horses are doing well, Dusty and Sara are improving with every ride, and we're starting to think about which of the girls we will want to breed in the spring. We think it will probably be Florrie, but haven't decided. No matter who we breed, she won't carry the foal, since she'll be in training. We're going to ask our Vet to find us a nice young Standardbred mare who needs a good home to use as a surrogate, and give her time over the winter to settle in with us and get the TLC she needs. I have all of Kyra's blankets and things, so she'll have lots of good stuff.
Goldie is at a new trainer's now, and Jack is delighted with her progress in just a month. The old trainer had a bit of a breakdown and wasn't able to do her justice. She went fox hunting today! (no actual foxes, just a dragged scent) and Sam texted Jack that Goldie was fabulous! She went in the water and over the logs and just loved it. Good for her!
My car is going to get fixed mid December. :)
I'm working 2 to 3 shifts a week, mostly in CCU, and I'm still quite enjoying it. Helps with the budget, too.
I'm really excited about going to see Cavalia, the horse spectacular from the guy who founded Cirque du Soleil, on Dec. 15th. I missed it last year, so I didn't want to miss it again this year.
I'm going to see the new Hobbit movie with my friends when it opens mid December. Looking forward to that.
Not so good things: my beloved Kyra died last week. My Aunt Ruth has been in hospital, and is making slow steps to recovery. My friend Jill's mother died last week, and our friend Elizabeth is facing another round of chemo for her cancer. I'm a little worried about one of my cats, Chloe; she has lost weight, and has the worst halitosis. I'm going to have to take her to the Vet, just in case she has a bad tooth or something. She's also been extra sucky lately, so I'm hoping she isn't ailing.
On the whole, the good things seem to outnumber the bad, so I guess November wasn't a write off. Onward to December!
