There was a bit of a circus moment for me this afternoon. Midnight and Kyra were out in the field today, and the weather turned nasty this afternoon, so I went to bring the two of them inside to their nice warm stalls. Midnight was at the gate, so I grabbed him, haltered him up and opened the gate, thinking that Kyra was far enough away that I could get through without any problem from her. She had other ideas. She trotted up behind and literally pushed Midnight out of the way, and took off through the gateway. Oookay. I yelled for help, but Jack was behind the barn, on the tractor, and Sue was way up in the small barn; nobody heard my cries. Kyra stopped to eat grass, and I thought I might be able to get Midnight by without her running off; didn't have the presence of mind to grab her halter I had hung on the fencepost. I was too busy trying to keep Midnight from pulling away from me. I got up to the barn, and Kyra just followed us in..oh, good, I thought, I'll just pop the boy into his stall and steer Kyra into hers. Then came the clown moment: Kyra came up beside Midnight, trying to push him aside; instead, she pushed me and I went splat! flat on my back. I lost my grip on the lead rope, and narrowly avoided getting smushed by horsefeet. Midnight was gone, rope sailing behind him in the wind, Kyra hot on his heels. That got Sue's attention! Round and round they went, through the small barn, around the buildings, through the barn again. It was like watching clowns getting in and out of a little car, lol. A couple of times I almost got one of them but they got away. Finally, Midnight stopped to say hello to Teddy in the small barn, and I was able to grab the lead rope and lead him back to his stall. Kyra was still flying around, but stopped when Sue tempted her with a pail of grain. Got a halter on my misbehaving old horse and into her stall she went. I was totally out of breath, and my left elbow hurts like a bugger. It's not badly scraped, but it's a bit swollen and bruised. So, when I brought Rochelle in from her run in the arena and she started jumping about, I wasveryfirm with her. All I needed was for a third horse to get loose on me!

It was a miserable day, rainy and cold. I was quite happy to get home safely; the roads were so wet, and there were a bunch of areas that were getting quite flooded. I stopped at the store for groceries, came home and made a delicious meatloaf, which I had with mashed potatoes and rutabaga and brussels sprouts for dinner. For dessert I made a fig puree to go on some thick Balkan style yogurt. Mmmmgood.

Watched some figure skating on TV, and that's my day.
