Hello again..

T'was a great weekend, sunny and warm for 3 days in a row!! A fine thing, that. Now it's Monday, and it's raining. Welcome to Vancouver in the springtime. Still, the gardens are blooming and the flowers look pretty, even in the darned rain. So I'm happy.
Had a bit of a scare with my horse Kyra last week..she's my old thoroughbred, retired and living the life of Reilly. I love her dearly, so when Sue called me last Thursday evening (just got home from work, ready to sit down with a nice cup of tea) to tell me Kyra had colic, I was really worried. Sue had noticed that Kyra was looking like she had a belly ache, so she got her into the arena and made the horse walk for two hours. When a horse has colic, you have to keep her walking; if she goes down and rolls, there's a danger that the intestines can get twisted. We weren't sure if the Vet would have to come out, but by the time I got there, Kyra was much better. She must have had a bit of an impaction, but the walking got things going again. :big sigh of relief: My old girl has to have extra care taken of her; I went out and bought a rather expensive bag of special Senior's grain for her, lots of extra fibre and stuff for older horses. She loves it.
It's been really busy in ICU lately. I got called every day of my 3 days off to see if I could work; one evening they were begging for even a few hours! Didn't go in though. I have to have some time to play! Today we started the day with only one empty bed in the entire unit; by the end of the shift there were a couple more, but I think BC Bedline was sniffing around for more ICU beds, so by tomorrow it might be full again. I had a busyish day, nothing too horrible or strenous, just interesting enough to keep me going all day long.
I'm getting used to taking public transit to and from work. With the new parking lot setup, I decided to avoid the issue and just take the bus. Some days it has its own oddly entertaining aspect; I'm amazed at how many people think nothing of carrying on loud conversations about very personal stuff (often on their phones), and how we all seem to have mastered the art of pretending we can't hear a thing. Heh.
Now I really must get organized for tomorrow. Day two of three work days, so meal planning is important. I went out and bought a couple of very tasty thin crust frozen pizzas the other day; roasted vegetables and cheese. I was hungry and didn't feel like cooking, so I thought I'd try one...and I ate the entire thing, mmmmm. So tonight I've baked another and this will be my dinner tomorrow. Now, what to take for lunch?

Date: 2012-05-29 06:28 am (UTC)Colic is scary.
Glad that public transit is more or less working for you. I eat a lot of food straight out of the freezer. Good!!!
Still looking forward to a visit in mid-July, looks like July 10 or 11 so far.
Could be as late as the 12th but I doubt it!
