Overheard in the grocery store:

midnightsjaneFrom the woman holding a large fresh turkey carcass in her arms: "So now I'll go run over a squirrel and not even care!" Say what?
She must have noticed my WTF face, because her friend laughed and said "see how far away I'm standing?" The woman told me that there was a story to this; her friend had read a study that suggested that people who are newly converted to using organic food and/or vegetarianism can develop an inflated sense of self rightousness that can also blind them to other behaviours that are less..well, right. (No comment on validity of said study here) This being the first time she had actually purchased a free range, organically grown turkey, she figured she'd be compelled to go commit squirrelicide. LOL
We all laughed, and I told them a bit about my one and only attempt at raising turkeys..back in my hippy days we tried to raise four turkeys. They proved to be the dumbest creatures ever, leaving me to believe that we do them a favour by eating them.
