Buddy's Day

Our little guy is doing really well. He's happy and healthy, and eating, well, like a horse. He's drinking 3 bottles of milk every 1 to 3 hours, seems totally unstressed, and has been frisking around his stall with great energy. It was a lovely, warm and sunny day, so we decided to take him out for a change of scene. Sue put his new halter on (and he just stood there a champ), Jack looped a lead rope around him, and out we went. He went into his paddock, and looked around with interest. Kismet, in the next paddock, was very interested, making soft little noises at him. Midnight was all excited by the sight, galloping around his paddock. Everyone settled down and little Buddy took a stroll around; he was a bit reluctant to walk away from us at the gate, so Jack went in and walked beside him. We stayed out for about 30 minutes, then he walked back into his stall and guzzled down another couple of bottles of milk. Then he went down for a nap. Big day!
We're very encouraged. We're trying hard to integrate him into the mix of horses, as soon as is safe and feasible, so he learns to be a horse, and not some sort of horse-human. He'll have a year-mate once Kismet has her baby and he or she gets weaned, but until then we're going to introduce him to the others by having him out in the paddock next to the others when the weather is good. We have to treat him like a horse, not a human baby.
PS: I have pictures posted over on my LJ.
