Mar. 10th, 2013 09:54 pmThings continue to keep the chaos levels up at the farm..really, trying to maintain a working farm in the middle of a construction zone is not something I'd recommend. We're so used to our quiet little piece of heaven that all the constant noise is rather trying. Not to mention having to negotiate around all the machines, building supplies, trenches etc. One positive note, all the horses are coping marvellously. The youngsters are going to be bomb proof after all this; a horse show will be a walk in the park for them! Our nerves aren't doing nearly so well. It's hardest on Sue, she's there all the time; at least I get to come home, and Jack has the peace and quiet of work..
Yesterday the tree guys were there; they had to cut down some of the trees that are in the path of the trench Hydro is going to dig for the electrical stuff. We're very sad about it; we lost a really beautiful holly tree and a silver birch that stood right beside the driveway. There wasn't much choice but it was still sad. Tomorrow, if the weather is okay, the trenching will begin..and that's going to be a whole story in itself.
I worked a couple of night shifts in the Coronary Care Unit this week. It's a change from ICU, but I have to admit to being out of my comfort zone there. Working in ICU there is a much broader focus on integrating all the systems and treating the illness from that perspective; in CCU probably 90% of the focus is on the heart, and that makes the perspective narrower, so that the expertise of the nursing staff in regards to the function of the heart and its various illnesses is a lot stronger than mine. I guess it's that being the kind of ICU nurse I am is more of a generalist, knowing a lot about a lot of the body systems, but not necessarily being an expert on any one of them, if you know what I mean. Still, it's a challenge, and makes me realize that I still have so much I can learn, and that I have to keep myself up to date if I want to do a good job.
I have been trying to catch up on some of the TV shows I've missed because I've been working (I don't have a DVR). Thank heavens for my speedy laptop and the ability to watch shows online! I caught up with Castle last night, and The Big Bang Theory as well. Tonight I watched Once Upon a Time, and have been having thoughts about it..which may or may not get written down. Masq, Shadowkat and Selenak have posted some interesting ideas about tonight's episode already, and that mostly covers my own thoughts, so my work is done for me! :P
Another show I'm watching is Touch, which I find intriguing and compelling and quite brilliant. The boy who plays Jake is amazing; the things he does with body language makes you forget he never says a word.
The ISU World Figure Skating Championships start next week. I'm looking forward to that, too.
