Bullied in school, a young man changes things with a simple act
This young man graduated from high school this month, having changed his life, and changed a lot of his schoolmates' ideas as well.
Closer to home, the young woman who works for us at the farm, Kelly, told me a story today that brought a tear to my eye, and a little warmth to my heart. Her sister is studying to be a veterinarian, and is volunteering for the summer at a local Veterinary Clinic. A couple of days ago someone came in to the clinic and told her that there was a dog in the ditch near the clinic. She went out and found a boxer who had been hit by a car and left. He had crawled into the ditch and there he lay, badly injured. She carried him into the clinic, and even though he was scared and hurt, he licked her face when she picked him up. He had a dislocated hip, broken ribs and other injuries, and no collar or tags. No one had notified the SPCA or anyone else about a lost dog, so the suspicion is that he was abandoned. The Veterinarian spent many hours trying to reset the dislocated hip, and tend the Boxer's other injuries, with the help of both Kelly and her sister. Everyone worked knowing that what they were doing might be futile, and would certainly be for free, but they carried on until he was stable. Kelly and her sister took the dog home with them at night, because he needed round the clock care and the clinic closed at night. Kelly said they took shifts nursing him through the night, and then brought him back to the clinic in the day. This has been going on for the last few nights. The dog is on the mend now, although he has to wear his leg brace to keep the hip stable, and he has a home waiting for him. One of the employees at the clinic wants to adopt him. Out of tragedy, a new life opens up to the possibility of happiness and love.
Now that's a story with a happy ending!
