It's said there are two seasons here in Vancouver: rainy, and construction. There's construction here at home, and construction at the farm. Wherever I go, there are hammers and saws and lots of noise. The work on the patio is turning out to be a whole lot more than I think my landlord anticipated; probably because, (as he told my neighbour Angie),and as the architect who designed the building 30 years ago admitted to him that the construction was done pretty cheaply. It kind of shows, now. They've taken up all the concrete, and have started putting down the waterproof membrane, but now it seems they have to remove the stairs and the balcony in front of the two apartments across from mine. Glad I'm not paying for it!

One thing I'm confused and annoyed about is what they've done with the plants that were on the balcony. We moved them up from the patio out of the way, and now they've disappeared! Found a couple of them downstairs, but I can't find limb or leaf of my fig tree. WTF? Where did they put it? I'll be really pissed if they've done something to it. Have to call the landlord tomorrow and grill him.

Out at the farm work has come to a stop on the apartment for a bit, while they wait for some stuff they need to arrive - not sure just what, but I guess it's something important. In the meantime, the carpenters are starting the work on the small barn; it needs a new roof. The old roof is many years old, and is at the end of its life, so we've decided to do the work while the construction crew is on site. They're putting up some new rafters, and then putting on a new metal roof, the same as on the new barn. It's a lovely soft gray, very classy. They're going to make windows in all the stalls in the barn, so the horses can look outside at all the goings on. We're really excited about getting the small barn fixed up. I can't wait to see Buddy being able to put his head out and look at his grandmother Jubilee. The difficulty right now is that the horses have to be outside so the work can be done, so tomorrow I have to be there by 8 a.m. or shortly thereafter. One of the crew is going to help Sue put the boys out, and then she can get Jubilee and Kandance out. I'll feed the big barn and get the horses ready to go out, so hopefully it will all fall in place smoothly. I just have to remember to set my really loud obnoxious alarm clock and put it in a place that I can't reach without getting out of bed.

It's all going to be worth the work in the end.
