Canada Day
Jul. 1st, 2011 10:56 pmThe sound of fireworks reminds me that I'm almost too late to wish Happy Birthday to my country...but here I am. So, Happy Canada Day!
I understand there was a really big party in Ottawa, with some rather royal guests. Hope everyone enjoyed themselves! I spent a somewhat quieter day, no crowds or flags or birthday cake for me. Still, the sun shone, the birds sang and the horses went outside to bask in the (at last!) warmth of the July sun. I cleaned stalls, fed horses, etc. most of the day, had a break for tea and chips at the end of the afternoon, and then took my horse Kyra out for some grass. It was almost 7 o'clock, and it was still warm and sunny, a gorgeous evening. I enjoyed just hanging out, so much so that I was reluctant to get in my car to drive back home. Had to though, because the cats would have been royally annoyed if they had to go hungry tonight.
Nice things today:
The fragrance of the rambling rose by the driveway, just coming into full bloom.
Standing in Buddy's stall with him, just the two of us, with me scratching his neck and him leaning into me, enjoying the company. He's feeling better (he's had a terrible cold all week and has been quite sick), still a bit of a cough and some sniffles. I washed his face and he liked that.
Having a sit down in Sue's comfy recliner chair, a cup of tea, and two kitties on my lap.
Rescuing a big yellow butterfly from certain drowning..it was in one of the water barrels in the paddock, and its wings were too wet to fly. I scooped it out, and at first I thought it was dead, but then I felt its antenna moving on my hand. I put it down on a log, and when I went by a few minutes later, it had flown away.
Bunnies scampering through the grass beside the paddocks. Very Peter Cottontail of them.
Finding 3 beautifully ripe strawberries on my plant when I got home. Ate them all.
And that was how I celebrated Canada Day!
