The day after Christmas.

Otherwise known as Boxing Day here in Canada, a day when the commercially minded among us line up for shopping opportunities. I avoid the stores at all costs on this day. What sane person would line up for hours for the chance to spend her money on stuff she really doesn't need?
I had a very nice Christmas Day. Low key, but pleasant and enjoyable. I woke up early and drove out to the farm. Sue, Jack and I did the barn work; it went really fast, with Jack doing the to-ing and fro-ing to the manure pile with the wheelbarrows. We were done the stalls by 11:30, and then had a leisurely lunch. We watched Back to the Future #2, while Sue got the turkey cooking. We brought the horses in, fed them and cleaned the paddocks before going in for dinner. While things were cooking we watched some of the Doctor Who marathon (well, I watched. Jack napped, and Sue was busy making dinner. I offered to help, but she refused.) We had the most delicious turkey dinner, then after tea and dessert we watched the dvd Jack got at the Oddysseo show. We relived that wonderful show, marveled at the horses and riders once more. Then it was time to go out and feed the horses once more before I got on the road for home.
I got home and stayed up to watch the repeat of the Doctor Who Christmas Special. I missed it at 6, because we were eating dinner, and I thought it would be rude to stare at the TV. By the time it was over it was almost 2:30 a.m!
I slept in this morning, and then went out to the farm. Sue and Jack went to the Boxing Day Fox Hunt (no real foxes used, only a scent trail). Jack's horse (our girl Goldie) was being ridden in it by her trainer; it's her second hunt ever. They were going to take lots of pictures, and then go to the post hunt lunch. A nice day out for the two of them, totally deserved. I helped Kelly with the horses, spent some time with my two, did some cleaning up of stuff around the garden space I've been meaning to do. I walked down the field to Kyra's grave to say hello; the flowers I'd put there were long dead, I thought, until I looked closely - there were little green shoots coming up. A sign of hope.
And Christmas is done for another year, with hope for the future blooming.
