Friday night rambles

Time to catch up with my posting. It's been a hectic week or so here, and I haven't had much time for anything other than working, eating and sleeping.
Five days of doing the barn work, followed by two busy days in ICU; I'm ready for a day off. I think Alyssa, the new person we hired for the barn work, will be fine; she did a good job on Wednesday, and seems keen. It's a relief to have someone, so I don't have to get up and drive out to the farm every morning.
ICU has been a total zoo for the last couple of weeks; we're in the middle of flu season, and it seems like not everyone has had their flu shot. We've got some pretty sick people in the unit right now; in fact we only had one empty bed at shift end. Sent two people out to the wards, and then got two new patients who were both really sick in to fill those beds. We even had a woman in labour! She is very ill, had to go on a ventilator today because of her severe pneumonia, and has been having contractions all day. She's eight months pregnant, so hopefully the baby is okay. There was a big crowd around her room all day, between the ICU staff and the Maternity staff. No baby when I left, but it could happen tonight. All the other ICUs in the city are super busy too, so it doesn't look like things are going to settle down any time soon.
One good thing is that I have all the shifts I want to work, no problem. Last week I could have worked 24 hours a day. Every time I got home from the farm I had at least 3 messages from staffing on my machine. I refused a day shift tomorrow...I just need a bit of a break.
It's been a miserably wet couple of days here. I got soaked just running across the street to the parking lot tonight. But I'll take the rain over snow, for sure. At least driving in the rain isn't too much of a problem.
Sam cat continues to do well, and is being a pretty good boy about taking his medicine. Tonight I managed to get more into him than on me! LOL
We'll see what the next week brings.
