Knackered: a state of total exhaustion, usually caused by excessive exercise and/or work.

That describes my state to a T. It's been a very busy couple of days, and I was so tired when I got home last night all I could do was grab a couple of slices of leftover pizza for dinner and collapse on the couch. It was our new barn worker's day off, her first since she started work last Wednesday. Training a new person is always tough, and it's never easy the first week or so until they get the hang of the job, so we didn't expect the stalls to be perfect. But they were so far from perfect it was like we were looking at perfect from several light years away, OMG. Every stall was wet and dirty and holy crap, so hard to clean. I think she'd been just taking out the manure, and picking through the bedding then adding more sawdust. We took out at least 5 wheelbarrows of dirty shavings from each stall, and by the time we'd finished all 11, I think Sue and I had done the equivalent of cleaning 40 stalls. I was just about done in. Still, we got it all done, and the stalls in better order, so today when Alyssa came, Sue talked to her, very nicely, about the proper way to clean a stall. She is a really nice girl, very willing to learn, and is good with the horses, so all she needs is some help and guidance. So this morning I worked with her, showing her how we do the stalls, and I think she's got it figured out. She told us that her last employer was always after her to work faster and didn't help her at all, so she was happy to be in a place where we work as a team, and give her time to learn how to do it right. She's going to be fine.

I'm impressed with how hard Sue and I can work; for two women on the far side of 50 (the very far side for me, LOL), we can work people half our age under the table. I will admit to having to take some Tylenol and muscle relaxant last night before bedtime, and plan to do the same tonight. The old hips are a bit sore, and I think I pulled a muscle in my right arm when one of the horses yarded her head around as I was leading her in. A nice hot bath helped.

Unfortunately for me, I had made myself available for a shift tomorrow in ICU, and they took me up on it. There was a message on my machine when I got home. I was praying they would not need me, but nope. Got to go in to work tomorrow morning.

At least the weather was good today. Very mild, about 12C, and dry. Makes life a lot easier when it's not pouring rain.

I was driving home this afternoon when in the darkness of the early evening I saw a big bonfire on the side of the highway. Turned out to be a pickup truck on fire! There were flames shooting way up into the sky. Seemed to be a lot of people around the truck...if it was me I'd be running away very fast! Might have gone kaboom. I was glad it was on the other side of the freeway. Poor person who owned the truck, that's a real bad way to end the day.

Speaking of ending, I'm going to do that. It's off to bed for me.
