A Good Day.

midnightsjaneI had a very good day, except for the start. Sam cat was supposed to go for his post tooth removal checkup this morning, so I went downstairs to the Veterinary Clinic to borrow a bigger carry cage. I didn't even get to put the cage on the floor before Sam hightailed it under the bed. Short of taking the bed apart, there was no way I could get him out from under it. It's a futon frame, so it's low to the ground, just big enough for a 25 pound cat to squeeze under. I gave up eventually and told the Vet I'd reschedule. Sam 1, Jane 0.
Uncooperative cats aside, it was a lovely day. I got caught up on some housekeeping chores that I've been too busy to do, had a leisurely breakfast, took some clothes I've had to donate to the thrift store, bought groceries and then spent the rest of the afternoon drinking tea and reading.
I finished astronaut Chris Hadfield's autobiography "An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth". I really enjoyed it (I secretly have always wanted to be an astronaut). It's a fascinating look at what it takes to get one person to the ISS and beyond...what it took Chris Hadfield was imagination, drive, focus and the ability to figure out what he needed to make his dream a reality and do it, and about 20 years of hard work. It's worth reading, IMHO.
Wonder of wonders, they've finally finished work on the patio! It's only been under construction since last August. This afternoon a crew of about 6 guys showed up and by suppertime it was done. Why didn't they do this months ago? Must be the slowest renovation ever. I'm just glad they've taken the tarps down; the last big windstorm it was so noisy in here it was like being in the midst of a hurricane. I thought the roof might fly away.
It was a lovely sunny day, a bit cold, but it wasn't raining!
Work tomorrow, but I don't start until 11 a.m., so I get to sleep in. Yay!
